New things: Tooth #’s 13
and 14 arrived this week!
Just as Ruth started
putting her finger up her nose not too long ago, she started putting her finger
in her ear this week. Again, funny how they learn this at such a young age.
Ruth can turn herself
around really well…meaning if she’s walking around, she can easily reposition
herself in the opposite direction without having to try hard or stop to think
about it or balance.
Ruth has started making a
new squealing/shrieking noise. It’s not a bad noise; it just seems to be a new
noise she discovered how to make and has fun making it…especially when she gets
attention after making it.
Fun things: O’s side of
the family was here this week. First O’s mom, sister, aunt, and cousin arrived
mid week, and then O’s dad, brother, and other sister arrived on Saturday. Tom’s
parents arrived on Sunday (Ruth’s 1st b-day party was on Sunday).
Ruth got to feed goats for
the 1st time! She seemed to enjoy it!
Ruth also got a balloon at
one of the restaurants we went to. She enjoyed picking it out!! Can’t go wrong
with balloons!
We had fun while family
was here. We went to a cheese store, went shopping and out to eat (went to one
of my dad’s new local favorites and tried out a new supper club as well), got
ice cream, rented movies, hung out at home, toured Tom’s farm, went to the
local goat farm and apple orchard, talked, cooked, and got ready for Ruth’s
party. My aunt and cousin also joined Tom for basketball at our local high
school, and my sister went to watch me at Zumba class.
Everyone (including myself
as I had never had a full tour) really enjoyed the tour of one of Tom’s farms.
We all asked lots of questions and learned LOTS!! We went on Saturday once the
rest of my family arrived.
My aunt and cousin brought
a treat bag along with them for Ruth. It had all sorts of fun things including
a couple new cups, granola bars, a toothbrush, oatmeal, goldfish, veggie/fruit
pouches, etc. She LOVED it! It was fun to watch her get excited about
everything.
After Ruth’s birthday
party, my family headed home, and we went with Tom’s parents to watch his farms
harvest and pack corn silage. We did this at one of the farms, and we also
tracked down a chopper out in a muddle field:). We grabbed some Subway for dinner before heading home.
Ruth loves: Sunflower
seeds. My mom introduced them to her. She can’t get enough of them.
Still loves peanut butter
and trying on others’ shoes.
We have a couple of small round
muti-colored striped magnets on the fridge (among other magnets), and for some
reason, Ruth LOVES these little magnets. She found them quite entertaining this
week and really enjoyed playing with them.
Ruth and I took our van
into the shop this week to get worked on, and Ruth really enjoyed all of the taxidermy
animals (especially the moose and deer) hanging up on the walls. She was really
entertained by them.
Sleep: The night before
Ruth’s party (when we had 7 other people sleeping at our place), Ruth really
struggled with sleep during the night. She woke up in the middle of the night,
and since we had people sleeping in basically every room of our apartment, we
were confined to our bedroom. We tried all sorts of things. She ended up
throwing up a few times…I had to change clothes and the sheets. We ended up
deciding to take her for a drive so as to not keep everyone else up and to
hopefully get her back to sleep. We drove to Tom’s farms and drove around. She
fell asleep. At one of the farms we parked so that Tom could work on packing
corn silage (in a HUGE tractor) while Ruth and I slept in the van. We did this
for 3 or so hours. It was fun, adventuresome, tiresome, and random all at the
same time. It made for a funny story and some fun birthday memories afterward,
though. I slept pretty well in the van, and Tom had fun driving the tractor.
Thankfully, he was able to get a nap in that morning before Ruth’s party.
Tom and I: Not much to
report, here, I guess. I worked on getting things ready for Ruth’s party (and
had been for awhile; wanted to have most of it done before family arrived). It’s
always so nice to see Ruth with family and to have extra hands to help carry
her, play with her, get her in and out of her car seat, etc. :). I had fun staying up one night to watch “Moms’
Night Out” with my aunt and cousin.
Tom enjoyed having my aunt and cousin join him for basketball, giving everyone a tour of one the farms and is really enjoying corn silage season...can you tell...especially when he gets to help out or watch!
Thank you, Lord, for: That
both sides of the family could be here for Ruth’s birthday! It was soooooooooo
special! We’re so grateful that all of them got to join us, as well as, some of
our close friends from here in WI!
